Why Bahrain, UAE normalization with Israel continues unabated
In May 2021, residents of the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood in Jerusalem were once again violently evicted from their homes by Israeli forces. But as local residents came out to protest, this time they received waves of support from across the world. Yet Israel continued to clamp down, disrupting Ramadan prayers—including those at the Al-Aqsa mosque—and in parallel, amid its conflict with Hamas, launched a bombing campaign in the Gaza Strip that killed at least 260 Palestinians.
It might be assumed that the Israeli violence against Arab Palestinians would result in retaliation from fellow Arab governments. However, the reality is that the renewed Arab-Israeli normalization continues unabated. These dynamics deserve more attention.
